In September 2021, Côte d’Ivoire announced the discovery of a field by Italian hydrocarbon giant ENI. The “Whale” deposit has a potential of 2 billion barrels of crude oil and 2,400 billion cubic feet of natural gas. In July 2022, a new discovery of black gold and natural gas is made in a block adjacent to the first one by the ENI Group, increasing the reserves announced in 2021 by 25%. Operated in partnership with Ivorian state-owned PETROCI HOLDING, the Baleine field is the largest hydrocarbon discovery in the Ivorian sedimentary basin. The Italian oil exploration and drilling company SAIPEM has been appointed by ENI and its Ivorian partner PETROCI HOLDING to carry out development work on the Baleine discovery.
SAIPEM provided its engineering and construction expertise for the installation of the subsea infrastructure essential to the production of black gold at the site, as well as for the installation of an underground pipeline to transport gas production to the local distribution network.
The Ivorian company KUYO PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION ET MAINTENANCE has been entrusted with the task of installing this 10 km underground gas pipeline with a 12″ diameter, 17 mm thick coated pipe. This type of operation is not a first for KUYO PIPELINE, which demonstrated its genius when it built a 358 km pipeline to transport petroleum products from Abidjan to the GESTOCI depots in Yamoussoukro and Bouake.
KUYO PIPELINE is a benchmark in pipeline construction in Côte d’Ivoire, an ambitious and expert company. With 42 years’ experience in the construction of gas pipelines, reservoirs and spheres, KUYO PIPELINE aims to establish itself as a true national champion in the field of hydrocarbon infrastructure construction.
